But an overactive bladder is more than frequent urination.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>What Qualifies As An Overactive Bladder?<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Often referred to as <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.intimina.com\/blog\/types-of-incontinence-in-women\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">urge incontinence<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, having an overactive bladder involves sudden, sometimes uncontrollable, urges to urinate that feel like your body screaming \u201cYOU GOTTA GO NOW!\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You may be one of the millions who suffer from an overactive bladder if:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You get an intense, overwhelming need to go unexpectedly<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You\u2019re peeing a lot (more than eight times a day)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There are times you\u2019re not able to make it to the toilet<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You find yourself rushing to the bathroom only to release a few drops<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><b>Ok, So Why Does This Happen?<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Urge incontinence is typically caused by involuntary bladder contractions or spasms. This can occur as a result of several underlying factors.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Nerve damage<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bladder function is triggered by nerve signals. If those nerves are damaged due to a stroke, diabetes, MS, or other serious medical condition, they may tell your bladder to contract when it isn\u2019t full and cause leaks.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Weak pelvic muscles<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Your <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.intimina.com\/blog\/pelvic-floor\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">pelvic floor muscles<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> are vital to maintaining urinary continence. Over your lifetime, they may become weakened as a result of pregnancy and childbirth, menopause, genetic factors, or even weight gain. But in the meantime, don\u2019t despair! There are some simple solutions you can try at home to help you improve bladder function and reduce urge incontinence.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Change your diet<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"drscroll\" style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Your bladder health and habits are directly related to your diet, so what you put in directly correlates to what you get out. Some small <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.intimina.com\/blog\/prevent-leaks-food\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">dietary changes can help keep leaks at bay<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Of course, there are the obvious tips like controlling liquid intake and avoiding diuretics like caffeine and alcohol.
