Unfortunately, that\u2019s not the case \u2013 gynecological health is just as important in your late teens and early 20s! Here\u2019s everything you need to know about when it comes to screenings, and preventative steps.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What are Gynecological Cancers?<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There are a few different types of gynecological cancers, which have their own different risk factors (which can include your genes). They include:<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>Uterine Cancer<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Uterine cancer is the most common type of gynecological cancer, and the fourth most common cancer overall in cis women in the US, according the CDC. It\u2019s most common for those who have undergone <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.intimina.com\/blog\/category\/menopause\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">menopause<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, but regular screening isn\u2019t currently recommended. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It\u2019s important to be aware of the symptoms, which include <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.intimina.com\/blog\/what-is-vaginal-discharge\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">abnormal vaginal discharge<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> or bleeding and\/or pain and pressure in the pelvic area. Risk factors include a family history of uterine cancer, obesity, and taking estrogen as a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.intimina.com\/blog\/hormone-replacement-therapy-menopause\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">hormone replacement<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>Ovarian Cancer<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Though only accounting for less than 5% of gynaecological cancers, ovarian cancer results in the most number of deaths. Survival rates for this cancer are quite good when caught early \u2013 unfortunately, only 20% are caught in early stages. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This is in part due to lack of screening process, but because the symptoms of ovarian cancer are easy to miss, like <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">abnormal abdominal bloating, abdominal pain or pressure, and feeling full quickly when eating. If you or a family member has had ovarian, colorectal or <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.intimina.com\/blog\/breast-cancer-gene-mutations\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">breast cancer<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, then you may also be at risk.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>Cervical Cancer<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We talk a lot about cervical cancer, because it has nearly no symptoms, and is almost always caused by HPV. HPV comes in many strains but those that can cause cancer can be avoided through vaccines. Additionally, as not all HPV will result in cancer, getting regular PAP smears is crucial!
