Yes, that includes pee, poop, and farts. There\u2019s no being shy here. Most importantly, this incredibly strong and complex network of muscles supports all the internal organs that lie in your abdomen. It basically acts as a hammock for your innards.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Just like with any other body part, stress can have a significant impact on the health of your pelvic floor. Certain physical stressors like birth and injuries may weaken the pelvic floor.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As with any injury or physical strain, injuries in the pelvic floor can cause <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.intimina.com\/blog\/scar-tissue-and-the-pelvic-floor\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">scar tissue<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> as part of the healing process. Well that my friend, is your pelvic floor.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">While this is a totally normal response to everyday woes and worries, when this is done all the time as a response to chronic stress, it can lead to all sorts of pelvic floor disorders from pain during sex, pelvic organ prolapse, lower back pain, to bladder dysfunction and constipation.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Mind-Body Connection<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When it comes to the mind-body connection, it\u2019s nearly impossible to distinguish the difference between physical and mental stress. As any emotional or mental stress someone experiences, has a direct impact on their physical health &#8211; including their pelvic floor.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You\u2019re probably familiar with the stress hormone, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hormone.org\/your-health-and-hormones\/glands-and-hormones-a-to-z\/hormones\/cortisol\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">cortisol<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. While cortisol helps to regulate all sorts of bodily functions like metabolism, memory formation, and inflammation, an imbalance of it can wreak havoc on your body.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Recent <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.physio-pedia.com\/Impact_of_stress_and_cortisol_levels_on_pelvic_pain_and_pelvic_stress_reflex_response\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">research<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> shows a correlation between female-bodied reproductive health disorders and pelvic floor pain.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Contrary to popular belief, chronic stress, especially from things like chronic pain, actually causes abnormally low levels of cortisol, not high levels. How does this work? When the body continuously releases cortisol as a stress response, it depletes the body\u2019s ability to naturally create it.
