They can help with urinary incontinence, prepare people for pregnancy and birth, strengthen the pelvic floor after birth, and even help give stronger orgasms. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But why should Kegels get all the credit? <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Contrary to popular belief, Kegels are <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.intimina.com\/blog\/you-probably-didnt-know-but-kegels-are-not-the-only-pelvic-floor-exercise\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">not the only kind of pelvic floor exercises<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> out there. There are quite a few other ways you can reap the benefits of pelvic floor exercises. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Let me introduce you to your new friend \u2013 Pompoir exercises.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>What Are Pompoir Exercises?<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">First things first. There\u2019s very little, if not any, research confirming the effectiveness of Pompoir exercises. That being said, personal anecdotes and experiences matter, especially when it comes to sexual pleasure.\u00a0 <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pompoir exercises are typically discussed in a cis-hetero context, aka man and women. To be as inclusive as possible, we\u2019re going to instead use terms like &#8216;the person being penetrated, and the penetrator.&#8217; <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">While these may not be the sexiest terms, they create inclusivity, because not everyone who penetrates has a penis. They may be doing it with a dildo or toy, and also have a vagina themself.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pompoir exercises are used to strengthen the pelvic floor muscle for and during sex for intense orgasms both for the person being penetrated, and for the person penetrating (if they have a penis).\u00a0 <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Supposedly, Pompoir exercises date back to ancient Indian tantra over 3,000 years ago and were widely practised in Japan and Thailand.\u00a0 <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In Arabic, Pompoir exercises are called\u00a0 &#8216;Kabazza&#8217;, and they\u2019re also sometimes called &#8216;Singapore\u2019s Kiss&#8217;.\u00a0 <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This set of exercises are done during intercourse, whether that\u2019s with a penis or a sex toy, and demands more control over the pelvic floor and <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">pubococcygeus (PC) muscles<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (inside the vagina) <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">than your standard Kegels.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Benefits of Pompoir Exercises<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pompoir is considered sexual exercises done with the intention to increase the power and length of orgasms for both people involved. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Because the person being penetrated is doing most of the moving, in a cis-hetero relationship, this puts the power back into the hands of the female, which can be empowering and shake up traditional gender dynamics.\u00a0 <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Teachers of Pompoir exercises claim they can help people with vaginas feel all different kinds of orgasms including vaginal, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.intimina.com\/blog\/gspot-orgasms\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">g-spot<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, cervical, and uterine orgasms. Again there\u2019s no scientific evidence that these kinds of separate orgasms exist, outside of anecdotal evidence. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">They may even help people be able to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.intimina.com\/blog\/squirting-its-not-a-myth\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">squirt<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>How to Do Pompoir Exercises<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pompoir exercises aren\u2019t just a matter of squeezing the vagina during sex. These are very old techniques that have been refined over the years.\u00a0 <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It\u2019s necessary to have the strength to do a Kegel before starting Pompoir, but Pompoir and Kegels are not the same. The pulling motion involved in doing a Kegel is part of Pompoir, but Pompoir also involves pulling, pushing, and isolating different areas of the vagina.\u00a0 <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Before you start practising Pompoir exercises with a partner, you\u2019ll want to make sure you\u2019re both properly aroused, warmed up, and lubricated. Don\u2019t be afraid to use <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.intimina.com\/blog\/lube-101\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">lube<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to help you out!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pompoir is typically done with the person being penetrated on top, AKA cowgirl style. The person with a penis or the penetrator lies still and waits for the magic to happen. They can have a few gentle thrusts to warm up before laying still.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Ride The Elevator<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">One of the foundational Pompoir exercises is called the elevator. You can practice this one outside of sex first, like sitting on the toilet after you\u2019ve gone pee.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Here\u2019s how you do it:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bear down like you\u2019re pushing something out\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Slowly do a kegel motion to pull up while counting to five<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Now pull in as hard as you can<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Now slowly do a five-count to push back down again<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Do this ten times or as many times as feels comfortable<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>The Sucker<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This creates a tantalizing sucking motion for your partner and requires quite a bit of control on your part.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Wanna try it?<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As your partner goes to thrust, push down like you\u2019re going to push them out<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As they pull out, squeeze like you\u2019re going to suck them back in<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Find a rhythm and try playing with different paces, moving slower and faster<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You can even do this while you and your partner are orgasming \u2013 you\u2019ll be sure to come back for more!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Building Strength and Resistance<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This is just a beginner\u2019s intro to Pompoir.
