This is somewhat comforting\u2026 to know that something can be done on a personal level.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This is, to make certain <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">lifestyle<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> changes and to understand the relationship between one\u2019s behaviours and hormonal functioning.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h1><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lifestyle Choices &amp; Knowledge To Improve Infertility<\/span><\/h1>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">First, it\u2019s important to note the importance of insulin when it comes to infertility. If someone is insulin resistant, it can have a big effect on their sex <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">hormones<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and sexual function.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To make things easier to understand, think about it this way: the most common cause of infertility in women is <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.intimina.com\/blog\/pcos-polycystic-ovary-syndrome\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">polycystic ovary syndrome<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (PCOS). And what is the most common cause of PCOS? Insulin resistance.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Knowing this, insulin resistance can come about due to a number of lifestyle choices. For example, if someone doesn\u2019t get quality sleep, doesn\u2019t <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.intimina.com\/blog\/start-to-love-exercise\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">exercise<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, suffers from a lot of <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.intimina.com\/blog\/easy-meditation-for-relieving-stress\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">stress<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and\/or has a diet that\u2019s high in sugar and carbohydrates, they may become more and more prone to insulin resistance.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And when there is insulin resistance, it\u2019s difficult for women to convert androgens (such as testosterone) into oestrogens. A man that is insulin resistant may have excess body fat. These fat cells secrete an enzyme called aromatase that converts testosterone into a type of oestrogen. The arteries may not dilate as much as they need to, leading to reduced blood flow, which is needed for sexual functioning.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In men, blood flows to the penis in order to get an erection. If blood flow is compromised, they may suffer from erectile dysfunction. For women, it can reduce levels of <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.intimina.com\/blog\/body-changes-when-horny\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">arousal<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, as blood doesn\u2019t flow to the genitals.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Having said that, we aren\u2019t discrediting individuals who suffer from insulin resistance due to factors such as genetics and age. We are merely pointing out that for many, a simple change in lifestyle can reduce their chances of suffering from insulin resistance, which can improve their chances of beating infertility.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In fact, there have been many <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/nutritionandmetabolism.biomedcentral.com\/articles\/10.1186\/1743-7075-2-35\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">clinical trials<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that further prove just how effective lifestyle changes can be to increase fertility. These trials, mostly lasting a mere three to six months, focused solely on participants reducing their intake of carbohydrates. They made no other adjustments to their lifestyle.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This one change alone showed improvements when it came to PCOS reversal, regular menstrual cycles, and new pregnancies in women who were struggling to fall <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">pregnant<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.
