{"id":21729,"date":"2023-10-04T07:54:54","date_gmt":"2023-10-04T05:54:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.intimina.com\/blog\/?p=21729"},"modified":"2023-10-04T07:55:47","modified_gmt":"2023-10-04T05:55:47","slug":"social-media-motherhood","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.intimina.com\/blog\/social-media-motherhood\/","title":{"rendered":"Does Social Media Make You Feel Like a Bad Mom? \u2013 An Intimina Survey"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The average mom who feels like a \u201cbad mom\u201d today feels this way 156 times a year, according to new research.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A survey of 2,000 moms looked at their experiences after having children and found that a third feel like they\u2019re a \u201cbad mom\u201d sometimes.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-21730 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.intimina.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/intimina-social-media-moms-survey.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1105\" height=\"595\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.intimina.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/intimina-social-media-moms-survey.png 1105w, https:\/\/www.intimina.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/intimina-social-media-moms-survey-507x273.png 507w, https:\/\/www.intimina.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/intimina-social-media-moms-survey-768x414.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1105px) 100vw, 1105px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sixty-five percent of moms use social media, 26% don\u2019t and the results found that those who do are more than four times as likely to feel like a bad parent (46% vs. 11%).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">More than three-quarters agree that social media puts pressure on moms to look or act a certain way (77%) and a similar percentage said that society has too many expectations of what a mother should be (79%).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The survey also found that a majority of American moms who have heard of \u201cmomfluencers,\u201d social media influencers who cater to moms, watch their content (83%).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-21731 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.intimina.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/intimina-social-media-moms-survey2.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1076\" height=\"662\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.intimina.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/intimina-social-media-moms-survey2.png 1076w, https:\/\/www.intimina.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/intimina-social-media-moms-survey2-444x273.png 444w, https:\/\/www.intimina.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/intimina-social-media-moms-survey2-768x473.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1076px) 100vw, 1076px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">However, 65% of these respondents feel more insecure after watching this content. Yet, one in seven don\u2019t think that \u201cmomfluencers\u201d realistically portray motherhood.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Interestingly, those who use social media are more convinced that \u201cmomfluencers\u201d do represent motherhood compared to those who aren\u2019t active on those platforms (83% vs. 47%).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Conducted by OnePoll in partnership with <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Intimina<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the survey found that when seeing other moms on TV or social media, respondents feel pressured to add things to their daily routines, such as exercising (46%), cooking (44%) and waking up early (43%).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Forty-two percent also feel like they need to stay on top of housework and another 37% feel pressured to cook with \u201corganic\u201d foods.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-21732 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.intimina.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/intimina-social-media-moms-survey3.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1073\" height=\"676\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.intimina.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/intimina-social-media-moms-survey3.png 1073w, https:\/\/www.intimina.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/intimina-social-media-moms-survey3-433x273.png 433w, https:\/\/www.intimina.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/intimina-social-media-moms-survey3-768x484.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1073px) 100vw, 1073px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Because of their experiences with seeing online moms, two in three are completely over \u201cmomfluencers\u201d (67%).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201c<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We believe every woman&#8217;s journey is unique and should be celebrated,\u201d said Dunja Kokotovic, global brand manager of INTIMINA. \u201cWe encourage women to embrace their experiences, lives and bodies without comparing themselves to others on social media. It is important to remember that their authenticity is their greatest strength, and there is no one-size-fits-all in motherhood.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Thinking back to their early days of motherhood, 53% admit they compared themselves to other moms within the first year. Those who use social media are four times more likely to have experienced this than moms who don\u2019t (73% vs. 17%).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Moms remember feeling unconfident about their role like whether or not they were meeting their child\u2019s needs (35%) or being a good parent (32%).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">They also felt insecure about their body internally (18%) and externally (31%).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-21733 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.intimina.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/intimina-social-media-moms-survey4.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1073\" height=\"662\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.intimina.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/intimina-social-media-moms-survey4.png 1073w, https:\/\/www.intimina.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/intimina-social-media-moms-survey4-442x273.png 442w, https:\/\/www.intimina.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/intimina-social-media-moms-survey4-768x474.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1073px) 100vw, 1073px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Forty-one percent of those who gave birth to their child said that their body didn\u2019t go back to the way it was before, and 69% of those whose bodies haven\u2019t gone back to the way it was worry it never will.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A majority of moms who gave birth and experienced these changes were afraid something was wrong with them based on how different their body was (72%).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-21734 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.intimina.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/intimina-social-media-moms-survey5.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1066\" height=\"633\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.intimina.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/intimina-social-media-moms-survey5.png 1066w, https:\/\/www.intimina.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/intimina-social-media-moms-survey5-460x273.png 460w, https:\/\/www.intimina.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/intimina-social-media-moms-survey5-768x456.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1066px) 100vw, 1066px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">One in seven shared that it\u2019s harder to care for their body since becoming a mom and 61% have noticed lasting changes externally like stretchmarks (54%), weight gain (45%) and change in hair (41%).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A notable 42% of women who gave birth also experienced pelvic floor issues. Among them, more than half (70%) have experienced uncomfortable or painful sex due to a weak pelvic floor after giving birth.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-21735 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.intimina.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/intimina-social-media-moms-survey6.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1054\" height=\"612\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.intimina.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/intimina-social-media-moms-survey6.png 1054w, https:\/\/www.intimina.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/intimina-social-media-moms-survey6-470x273.png 470w, https:\/\/www.intimina.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/intimina-social-media-moms-survey6-768x446.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1054px) 100vw, 1054px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201c<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Incontinence after childbirth occurs due to the stretching and weakening of the pelvic floor muscles during pregnancy and delivery,\u201d Kokotovic, said. \u201cStrengthening these muscles postpartum is crucial to regain bladder control, support pelvic organs, prevent long-term issues and enhance overall well-being, improving physical and emotional health.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Caring for your body during this time is essential, and we encourage women to consider Kegel exercises as an effective way to strengthen their pelvic floor muscles.
