And it&#8217;s easy to feel frustrated about your lack of alertness, especially when the rest of you feels different, too.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There isn&#8217;t much scientific research backing up pregnancy brain, but anecdotal accounts of women prove that it&#8217;s real. In a 2014 study published in the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tandfonline.com\/doi\/abs\/10.1080\/13803395.2014.912614\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Journal of Clinical and Experimental Neuropsychology<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <strong>researchers found that pregnant women reported memory loss. However, when their brains were scanned with nonpregnant women, their brains looked the same.\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Another 2014 study published in <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/science\/article\/abs\/pii\/S0278262613001668?via%3Dihub\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Brain and Cognition<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> found that <strong>pregnant women in their second trimester scored much lower than nonpregnant women on a test that examines spatial relations between different objects.\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">So, is pregnancy brain something to worry about or something you can avoid? Plus, these symptoms can keep someone from sleeping, adding to pure exhaustion.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Not getting enough sleep can lead to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC10204456\/\">neurons becoming overworke<\/a>d which impacts memory. Moreover, sleep deprivation <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nature.com\/articles\/s41598-020-65086-x#:~:text=We%20found%20that%20sleep%20deprivation,opportunities%20for%20aging%20and%20AD.\">impairs hippocampal connectivity<\/a><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong> when learning new things,<\/strong> like remembering that doctor&#8217;s appointment or where you put your purse.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Another component of pregnancy brain is the fluctuation of hormones throughout the entirety of pregnancy. A pregnant person may not begin to feel like themselves again until six months after birth, meaning that pregnancy brain can be present even after childbirth.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Some researchers believe that the sudden surge of progesterone and estrogen can create issues with memory and thinking clearly.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Moreover, pregnancy is new and stressful. You might not be prepared or overwhelmed. Researchers followed up with the mothers after childbirth and found that this change can take up to two years to return back to normal.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Can You Cure Pregnancy Brain?\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pregnancy brain is something that comes along with your new baby in your belly, however, there are some remedies to try out if you&#8217;re getting frustrated with feeling foggy.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">First things first: <strong>sleep<\/strong>.
