Queerantine Activities

With growing uncertainty of the impact of a global pandemic combined with massive civil revolution movements protesting police brutality and systemic racism against BIPOC – caring for yourself can feel like a revolutionary act.

While bloggers have been quick to fill their pages with cute couple quarantine activities, many of these pages seem to be lacking in representation. While joy and connection is crucial for everyone, seeing stock images of straight couples adorning these pages, makes a fellow queerdo like me quick to close out that tab with a sigh.

Which is why I’ve compiled some of my top “queerantine” activities, to spice things up, and give you and your partner tools for playful self-care. Keep in mind, you certainly don’t have to be queer to participate in these activities.

Have fun!

The Hat Game

Life is full of surprises, why not use the element of surprise to flip that quarantine frown upside down?

Grab a hat or an empty bag, then cut a bunch of strips of paper into smaller pieces.

Sit down with your partner and take ten to twenty minutes to write out various impromptu “activities” to do with each other.

These can be simple prompts for words of affirmation, to steamy and sexy suggestions. Let your imagination run wild! Just be sure it’s something that both you and your partner consent to.

Whenever the energy is feeling a bit stagnant or bored, reach for your magic hat and let the games begin!

Body Brush

This one was inspired by a recent masterpiece that was created one sunny Saturday afternoon. By using only a piece of stretched canvas, some body-safe paint, and two boobs, we were able to create a brilliant work of aquatic inspired art.

That’s right, turns out boobs are great paintbrushes! And I bet they’re not the only body part that could create unique prints on paper or canvas (maybe avoid orifices, if you catch my drift).

First get your supplies: canvas or a large piece of butcher paper, body-safe paint, and a willing participant.

Then have your partner spread paint on your body using a brush or their hands. Get creative and see just what shapes and patterns you can create together. Voila!

While this is super fun with a partner, this can totally be a solo activity as well!

Sexy Spa Session

Nothing says self-care like a sexy spa session. Treat your partner right, by preparing a mellow space complete with dim lighting, candles (highly recommend massage candles), relaxing music, and whatever other assorted toys tickle your fancy.

You can start with partner yoga to ease into your space, get relaxed together, and tap into the moment. Another awesome way to ease into spa day, is by taking a bath together. Complete with relaxing epsom salts, and yummy essential oils.

A favorite treatment we’ve been trying at home is influenced by an Ayruvedic technique called Shirodhara, where warm oil is continuously dripped over the third eye. Unless you’re professionally trained, you probably don’t have access to one of the expensive contraptions used in this treatment. We simply use a measuring cup with a spout, and fill it with warm oil Coconut, sesame, and olive oil are all great options.

Make sure to put a towel down first. Have your partner lay on their back, and gently place a slightly damp washcloth over their eyes to protect them. Then slowly pour the oil over their forehead in the same spot, near the “third eye”. You can use the residual oil to massage their face, neck, head, ear, and chest.

You can then move the massage to their backs, arms, legs, and wherever else your hands take you.

Artsy Admiration

You know you love your partner, but in the stress and mundanity of quarantine, sometimes we forget to express it. Here’s your chance.

You’re going to each take ten to thirty minutes (decide ahead of time), to craft exactly what you love and appreciate about your partner.

How you choose to express your love is totally up to you. Use your creative gifts to let your words of affirmation pour forth in whatever form they take. This can be in a poem, a song, a rap, a dance, a painting or drawing, a sculpture, a culinary creation. By all means, get creative, and let your lover know just how much they are appreciated!

Sensual Snacks

Again, we suggest doing this one outside if possible or laying down some old towels, because this can get messy.

If your partner is comfortable with it, blindfold them (you can literally use anything). Then gather supplies, meaning an assortment of sensual snacks. Explore tactile sensations by rubbing various food items across their body, having them guess what it is before finally giving them a bite.

Ignite all your senses, and get playful with it!

We know some days are easier than others, and we hope these sweet quarantine activities help give you and your partner new tools and inspiration to navigate life right now.
